Story: Unity is Strength

Once there was an old farmer (agronomist) in a village. He had four sons. They were always quarreling among themselves. The old man was very upset with them and he was very worried about their future. He wanted the four boys to always be together. One day the old man called his sons to teach them the value of unity. Then he asked the younger boy to bring some sticks.

The little boy brought some sticks. The old man told him to tie the sticks together. The farmer asked his sons to break the bundle. They tried one after another but none of them succeeded. Then the old farmer told the boys to open the bundle. When they did this, he told them to break the sticks apart. One by one they broke the stick very easily.

The old man said, “My sons! Don’t quarrel if you are united like sticks. No one can harm you. On the other hand, if they quarrel among themselves. Will you lose strength and your enemies will harm you easily? So live in peace.” The sons understood the point and promised to follow their father’s advice.

গল্প: একতাই বল

একদা এক গ্রামে একজন বৃদ্ধ কৃষক ছিলেন। তার চারটি ছেলে ছিল। তারা সবসময় নিজেদের মধ্যে ঝগড়া লেগে থাকত। বৃদ্ধ তাদের প্রতি খুবই বিরক্ত ছিল এবং সে তাদের ভবিষ্যৎ নিয়ে খুব চিন্তিত ছিলেন। সে চাইত চার ছেলে সবসময় মিলে মিশে যেন থাকে। একদিন বৃদ্ধ তাদের একতার মূল্য শেখানোর জন্য, তিনি তার ছেলেদের ডাকলেন। তারপর ছোট ছেলেকে বললেন কিছু লাঠি আনতে।

ছোট ছেলে কিছু লাঠি নিয়ে এলো। বৃদ্ধ লোকটি তাকে লাঠিগুলো একত্রে বাঁধতে বলল। কৃষক তার ছেলেদের বান্ডিল ভাঙতে বলল। তারা একের পর এক চেষ্টা করল কিনাতু তাদের কেউই সফল হয়নি। তখন বৃদ্ধ কৃষক (বৃদ্ধ লোক) ছেলেদের বললেন বান্ডিলটি খুলতে। যখন তারা এটা করল (বান্ডিল খুলল), তখন সে তাদের লাঠিগুলো আলাদা করে ভাঙতে বলল। তারা একের পর এক লাঠি খুব সহজেই ভেঙ্গে ফেলল (অংশ আলাদা করা)।

বৃদ্ধ বলল, “আমার ছেলেরা! লাঠির মত ঐক্যবদ্ধ থাকলে ঝগড়া করবেন না। কেউ তোমার ক্ষতি করতে পারবে না। অন্যদিকে নিজেদের মধ্যে ঝগড়া করলে। তোমরা শক্তি হারাবে এবং তোমাদের শত্রুরা সহজেই তোমাদের ক্ষতি করবে? তাই শান্তিতে বসবাস কর।’’ পুত্ররা বিষয়টি বুঝতে পেরেছিল এবং তাদের পিতার পরামর্শ অনুসরণ করার প্রতিশ্রুতি দিয়েছিল।
