The economic habits of queen Victoria

Queen Victoria was queen (রাণী) of the United Kingdom (UK) of Great Britain and Ireland (আয়ারল্যান্ড). When she was a little girl, she was taught economical habits by her excellent governess (চমৎকার শাসন). The princess had a set allowance (ভাতা) for pocket money. She was not permitted to exceed (অতিক্রম) it. Once she went to the market in Tunbridge Wells to buy presents for relatives and friends. But she had expended all her supply of money. At the time of leaving, she remembered another cousin.

She thought that she would like to make a present. She saw a box marked half-crown and she considered (বিবেচনা করা) that it would be just the very thing for him. But it was alas! The money was all spent! The people in the shop said they would just enclose (ঘিরা) the box with other articles. Then her governess said, “No, you see the princess has not the money. So, of course, she cannot buy the box.”

The shopkeepers said that they would reserve (সংরক্ষিত বস্তু) the box when she would buy the next due pocket money. The princess mounted (উচ্চে স্থাপিত) her donkey (গাধা) and she was at the bazaar for the coveted box 7 o’clock in the morning.
